"It's a good starting position for tomorrow's Sprint race," Sainz said. "I think we can fight for a podium if we get a good start. We have a good car, and we know we can fight with the top teams."
Sainz's teammate, Charles Leclerc, qualified in P3 and will start the Sprint race in P2.
The Monegasque driver is also confident of a strong result in the Sprint race and is aiming for a podium finish in the main event.
"I'm happy with my qualifying performance," Leclerc said. "I think we have a good car for the Sprint race and the main race. I'm confident of getting a good result."
