City of Geary's Entire Police Force Resigns, Officials Say
Unprecedented Move Leaves City Without Police Protection
The entire police force in the small town of Geary, Oklahoma, has resigned, leaving the city without any law enforcement protection. The 12 officers submitted their resignations to the city manager on Monday, effective immediately. The city manager, Marc Woolley, said he was "shocked and disappointed" by the mass resignation.
Reasons for the Resignations Unclear
The reasons for the resignations are unclear at this time. Woolley said that the officers did not provide any explanation in their resignation letters. He said that he had met with the officers several times in recent weeks to discuss their concerns, but they had not mentioned any major issues.
Some residents have speculated that the resignations are related to the recent hiring of a new police chief. The new chief, John Smith, was hired from a larger city and has a reputation for being a strict disciplinarian. However, Woolley said that he did not believe that Smith's hiring was a factor in the resignations.
City Officials Seeking Solutions
City officials are now working to find a solution to the lack of police protection. Woolley said that he has contacted the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI) and the Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP) for assistance. He said that he is also exploring the possibility of contracting with a private security company.
In the meantime, residents are being urged to be vigilant and to report any suspicious activity to the OSBI or OHP. Woolley said that he is confident that the city will be able to find a solution to the problem and that Geary will continue to be a safe place to live.
