F1: Piastri lets Norris pass, McLaren takes commanding sprint win
Lando Norris made a superb start to grab the lead from Oscar Piastri off the line and controlled the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix Sprint from there to claim his first win of the season, while McLaren secured a 1-2 finish with Piastri taking second.
Norris was able to convert his pole position into the race lead, despite a poor start from his McLaren team-mate Oscar Piastri, who started alongside him on the front row of the grid.
Piastri, who was making his Formula One debut, had not raced in wet conditions prior to the sprint and struggled to get away from the line, allowing Norris to sweep into the lead.
Behind the McLarens, Sergio Perez made a good start to move up to third place, while George Russell also made progress, rising from eighth to fourth.
Norris was able to build a comfortable lead over the opening laps, while behind him Piastri was coming under increasing pressure from Perez.
On lap 5, Perez made his move on Piastri, diving down the inside at Tamburello to take second place.
Piastri tried to fight back, but Perez was able to hold on to his position and began to close the gap to Norris.
