Carlos Sainz Jr. reflects on Saturday's less-than-ideal Sprint Race in Brazil
Despite qualifying in third, Sainz found himself falling down the order
Carlos Sainz Jr. had a difficult Sprint Race at the São Paulo Grand Prix, dropping from third on the grid to eighth at the finish. The Ferrari driver admitted that he "made too many mistakes" during the race, which cost him valuable positions.
Sainz made a poor start and lost a place to Sergio Perez on the opening lap. He then struggled to overtake Lando Norris' McLaren, allowing Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso to close in. On Lap 12, Sainz finally passed Norris, but he then made a mistake at Turn 4 and allowed Hamilton to retake the position.
Sainz continued to struggle, and on Lap 20, he was passed by Alonso. He finished the race in eighth place, behind teammate Charles Leclerc, who finished fourth.
Sainz: "I made too many mistakes"
After the race, Sainz admitted that he made "too many mistakes" which cost him several places.
"I made too many mistakes today," said Sainz. "I lost a lot of time at the start, and then I struggled to overtake Norris. I finally got past him, but then I made a mistake at Turn 4 and lost the position to Hamilton. I just didn't have the pace today, and I made too many mistakes. I need to learn from this and come back stronger tomorrow."
Sainz hoping for a better result in Sunday's race
Despite his disappointing Sprint Race, Sainz is hoping for a better result in Sunday's race.
"I'm not going to give up," said Sainz. "I'm going to learn from my mistakes today and come back stronger tomorrow. I know I can do better, and I'm determined to get a good result for the team."
