Geary Police Chief Resigns
Longtime law enforcement official to step down after 22 years with department
Geary Police Chief Kenton McBee has announced his resignation from the department, effective March 10, 2023.
McBee, who has served as chief for the past three years, said he is leaving to pursue other opportunities. He has been with the Geary Police Department for 22 years, starting as a patrol officer in 2001.
"It has been an honor and a privilege to serve as the Chief of Police for the Geary Police Department," McBee said in a statement. "I am proud of the work that we have accomplished together, and I am confident that the department will continue to thrive under new leadership."
McBee's resignation comes at a time when the Geary Police Department is facing several challenges, including a shortage of officers and a recent uptick in crime.
The department is currently authorized to have 18 officers, but it is currently short-staffed by three. The department has also seen an increase in crime in recent months, including a double homicide in January.
McBee said he is confident that the department will be able to overcome these challenges. He said he will work with the city to find a new chief who can lead the department into the future.
"I am committed to ensuring a smooth transition during this time," McBee said. "I will work with the city to find a new chief who can lead the department into the future."
The city of Geary has already begun the process of searching for a new police chief. The city is expected to name a new chief within the next few months.
