Joey McGuire says Texas Tech QB Behren Morton is "full tilt" for Iowa State
Red Raiders prepare for matchup in Ames
Morton suffered an ankle injury in the win over Kansas
Texas Tech quarterback Behren Morton is "full tilt" for Saturday's game at Iowa State, according to head coach Joey McGuire.
Morton suffered an ankle injury in the first quarter of the Red Raiders' 37-34 win over Kansas last Saturday. He returned to the game and finished 20-of-33 passing for 243 yards and a touchdown.
McGuire said Morton has been practicing this week and is expected to start against the Cyclones.
"He's full tilt," McGuire said. "He's been practicing all week and he's ready to go."
Morton's health is a key storyline for the Red Raiders, who are looking to improve to 4-4 overall and 2-3 in the Big 12. The sophomore quarterback has been a bright spot for Texas Tech this season, completing 61.3% of his passes for 1,499 yards and 12 touchdowns.
Iowa State's defense will be a tough test for Morton and the Red Raiders. The Cyclones are allowing just 20.3 points per game, which ranks 18th in the nation.
"They're a good defense," McGuire said. "They're very physical and they're very well-coached. We're going to have to be ready for a challenge."
The Red Raiders and Cyclones will kick off at 11 a.m. CT on Saturday in Ames, Iowa. The game will be televised on ESPN2.
