Louisville lands former Oregon signal-caller Tyler Shough for seventh year of eligibility

Former Oregon Ducks quarterback Tyler Shough has found a new home for his seventh and final year of eligibility, committing to the Louisville Cardinals.

Shough, a former four-star recruit, entered the NCAA transfer portal in November after losing the starting quarterback job at Oregon to Bo Nix. He spent the last four seasons with the Ducks, starting 13 games and throwing for 2,990 yards and 25 touchdowns with 11 interceptions.

Shough's decision to join Louisville gives the Cardinals a much-needed boost at the quarterback position.

Malik Cunningham, Louisville's starting quarterback the past four seasons, has exhausted his eligibility. The Cardinals also lost backup quarterback Brock Domann to the transfer portal in December.

Shough will compete with redshirt freshman Evan Conley and true freshman Khalib Johnson for the starting quarterback job at Louisville. Conley started one game in 2022, while Johnson was a highly touted recruit in the 2023 class.

Shough's experience and leadership will be valuable assets to the Cardinals.

He has started games in big-time environments, including the Rose Bowl and Fiesta Bowl. He also has experience in Scott Satterfield's offense, which is similar to the one he ran at Oregon.

Shough's addition gives Louisville a legitimate chance to compete for the ACC Championship in 2023. The Cardinals return a talented roster, including All-ACC wide receiver Tyler Hudson and All-ACC defensive end Yasir Abdullah.
