New Weigh-in-Motion Station Opens on Dmitrovskoe Highway
A new weigh-in-motion (WIM) station has opened on Dmitrovskoe Highway, km 62+790, outside the village of Lopotovo. It will monitor traffic 24/7 and automatically weigh trucks in motion, helping to prevent damage to roads and bridges from overloaded vehicles.
The new WIM station is part of a network of such stations being installed on federal highways across Russia. The stations use sensors embedded in the road surface to measure the weight of vehicles as they drive over them. This information is then used to identify overloaded vehicles, which can be pulled over for further inspection.
Overloaded vehicles can cause significant damage to roads and bridges. The weight of a single overloaded truck can be equivalent to the weight of several dozen cars, and this can put a strain on the infrastructure. In addition, overloaded vehicles can be dangerous to other drivers, as they can be more difficult to control and may be more likely to cause accidents.
The new WIM station on Dmitrovskoe Highway is expected to help reduce the number of overloaded vehicles on the road and improve safety. The station will be operated by the Federal Road Agency (Rosavtodor) and will be integrated with the agency's existing traffic management system.
