National Weather Service Issues Severe Thunderstorm Watch for Central and Eastern Nebraska
The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for central and eastern Nebraska, effective immediately. The watch includes the cities of Lincoln, Omaha, Grand Island, and Norfolk. Residents in these areas are urged to be prepared for possible flooding, power outages, and other hazardous conditions.
The NWS predicts that the storms will develop rapidly and could produce heavy rain, hail, and strong winds. The storms are expected to move through the state from west to east, with the most severe weather expected in the late afternoon and evening hours.
Residents are advised to take the following precautions:
* Stay informed about the latest weather conditions by listening to local news and weather reports. * Have a plan in place for where you will go if you need to evacuate your home. * Secure loose objects outdoors, such as patio furniture and grills. * Fill your vehicle's gas tank and have extra supplies on hand, such as food, water, and a first-aid kit. * If you are caught in a thunderstorm, seek shelter in a sturdy building and stay away from windows.
