SMU Cornerback Leaves Game vs. Pitt in Ambulance After Injury
SMU football player Kevin Johnson leaves the field after suffering an injury during the game against the University of Pittsburgh. Johnson was taken to the hospital by ambulance and is reportedly in stable condition.
Johnson, a junior cornerback from Dallas, Texas, was injured in the first quarter of the game after colliding with a Pitt wide receiver. He was immediately attended to by medical personnel and was eventually taken off the field on a stretcher.
The extent of Johnson's injuries is not yet known, but SMU head coach Sonny Dykes said after the game that Johnson was "alert and responsive" when he was taken to the hospital.
Johnson is a key member of the SMU defense, and his absence will be a big loss for the Mustangs. SMU is now 1-1 on the season and will face Maryland next week.
