SMU’s AJ Davis Has ‘Full Movement’ After Injury
Mustangs running back missed last week’s game
Surgery cleaned up small injury in knee
SMU running back AJ Davis has full movement after having arthroscopic surgery to repair a clean up a "small" injury in his knee that kept him out of last week's game.
The injury, which was described as a "small bucket handle tear in his knee," was discovered during an MRI after Davis felt soreness following the Mustangs' season-opening win against North Texas.
Davis said he was "relieved" to learn that the injury was not serious and that he would be able to return to the field soon.
"I'm feeling good," Davis said. "I've got full movement in my knee and I'm just trying to get back to 100%."
Davis is expected to miss the Mustangs' game against Lamar on Saturday, but he could return for the team's next game against TCU on Sept. 24.
"We're taking it day by day," Davis said. "I'm just trying to get back as soon as I can."
Davis is one of the most important players on the SMU offense.
He led the Mustangs in rushing last season with 1,197 yards and 13 touchdowns.
His absence was felt last week against Louisiana Tech, as the Mustangs struggled to get their running game going.
With Davis back in the lineup, the Mustangs' offense is expected to be much more effective.
"AJ is a big part of our offense," SMU coach Sonny Dykes said. "He's a tough runner and he makes our offense go."
Davis said he is excited to get back on the field and help the Mustangs win games.
"I'm just ready to get back out there and play," Davis said. "I'm excited to get back on the field and help this team win."
