India's batting frailties were exposed once again as they slumped to a crushing eight-wicket defeat against New Zealand in the first ODI in Hyderabad.

Chasing a modest target of 307, India's top order crumbled under pressure, with Shubman Gill (9) and skipper Rohit Sharma (34) falling cheaply.

Gill's misjudgement proved costly as he was caught behind off Tim Southee, while Sharma was trapped lbw by Lockie Ferguson.

India's middle order also failed to fire, with Virat Kohli (8) and Shreyas Iyer (24) departing without making any significant contributions.

Only KL Rahul (51) and Hardik Pandya (28) showed some resistance, but their efforts were not enough to prevent India from collapsing to 124 all out in just 30.5 overs.

In contrast, New Zealand's openers Finn Allen (56) and Devon Conway (54) gave their team a solid start, putting on 99 for the first wicket.

Kane Williamson (54*) and Daryl Mitchell (49*) then guided New Zealand home with an unbroken 100-run partnership for the fourth wicket.
