Eintracht Frankfurt defeats VfL Bochum 1848 in Bundesliga match
Eintracht Frankfurt remains in contention for UEFA Champions League qualification following Saturday's 2-0 home victory over VfL Bochum 1848 in the Bundesliga.
Goals from Jesper Lindstrom and Randal Kolo Muani in each half lifted Eintracht Frankfurt to within two points of fourth-place Borussia Mönchengladbach in the Bundesliga standings. Lindstrom's goal came in the 21st minute after Bochum goalkeeper Manuel Riemann failed to hold onto Djibril Sow's long-range effort, allowing Lindstrom to tap home from close range. Kolo Muani doubled the lead shortly after halftime with a powerful finish into the bottom corner after being set up by Lindstrom. Bochum had chances to get back into the game, but Sebastian Polter and Philipp Hofmann were unable to convert their opportunities. The defeat leaves Bochum just two points above the relegation playoff place, while Eintracht Frankfurt is now unbeaten in their last four Bundesliga matches.
Eintracht Frankfurt controlled possession for the majority of the match, with 63% of the ball compared to Bochum's 37%. The hosts also had more shots on goal, with 15 to Bochum's 10. Eintracht Frankfurt goalkeeper Kevin Trapp made four saves in the match, while Riemann made three saves for Bochum.
The win is a major boost for Eintracht Frankfurt's hopes of qualifying for the UEFA Champions League. The German club is currently fifth in the Bundesliga standings, three points behind fourth-place Borussia Mönchengladbach and two points ahead of sixth-place RB Leipzig. Eintracht Frankfurt will next face Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga on February 18th.
