New York City FC Wins 3-1, Setting Up a Decisive Game 3
FCC Falls in Hard-Fought Match, Faces Elimination in Next Week's Game
FC Cincinnati's hopes of lifting the MLS Cup took a major blow on Wednesday night as they fell 3-1 to New York City FC in the second game of the championship series. The loss leaves FCC on the brink of elimination, with only one more game to play.
NYCFC came out firing on all cylinders, scoring two goals in the first half to take an early lead. FCC fought back in the second half, with Luciano Acosta pulling a goal back in the 55th minute.
However, NYCFC restored their two-goal advantage just minutes later, with Maxi Moralez scoring what proved to be the game-winning goal. FCC was unable to find another goal, and the match ended 3-1 in favor of the visitors.
The loss was a bitter pill to swallow for FCC, who had hoped to secure a victory in front of their home crowd. The team now faces an uphill battle to win the MLS Cup, as they must win the next game in New York City and then win a potential fourth game back at home.
Despite the setback, FCC coach Pat Noonan remained upbeat after the match. "We're not going to give up," Noonan said. "We've got one more game to play, and we're going to give it everything we've got."
The third and potentially decisive game of the MLS Cup series will be played next Saturday, November 5, at Yankee Stadium in New York City.
