Horrific details emerge of how victims died in Spain’s flash floods
Torrential rain battered southeastern Spain on Saturday, triggering flash floods that killed at least six people and left more than 20 missing.
The victims included a family of four who were swept away by floodwaters in the town of Caudete, near Alicante. The bodies of the parents and two children, aged 4 and 8, were found on Sunday morning. A fifth victim, a 51-year-old man, was found dead in his car in the nearby town of Villena. The sixth victim, a 70-year-old woman, was found dead in her home in the town of Almoradí.
The floods caused widespread damage to homes and businesses in the region. In the town of Orihuela, floodwaters reached a height of more than 2 meters, inundating streets and causing buildings to collapse.
The floods also caused significant damage to infrastructure. In the town of Almoradí, a bridge was washed away, cutting off access to the town. In the town of Torrevieja, a section of the N-332 national road was closed due to flooding.
The floods have left a trail of devastation in southeastern Spain. Many people have lost their homes and belongings, and the region is facing a long and difficult recovery process.
