One Group Keeping Kevin O'Connell Tight-Lipped Ahead of Sunday's Colts Matchup
Minnesota Vikings Head Coach Mum on Pivotal Unit's Uncertain Status
Quarterbacks' Health and Availability a Major Concern for O'Connell
As the Minnesota Vikings prepare for their pivotal matchup against the Indianapolis Colts this Sunday, head coach Kevin O'Connell has remained tight-lipped about the status of one key group on his team: the quarterbacks.
The Vikings have been hit hard by injuries at the quarterback position in recent weeks, with Kirk Cousins currently in the concussion protocol and backup Nick Mullens dealing with an elbow injury. The only healthy quarterback on the roster is rookie third-stringer Kellen Mond.
When asked about the quarterbacks' availability for Sunday's game, O'Connell was noncommittal. "We're still evaluating the situation," he said. "We'll see how things progress over the next few days."
The Vikings' quarterback situation is a major concern for O'Connell, as the Colts have one of the best pass defenses in the NFL. Led by All-Pro cornerback Kenny Moore II, the Colts have allowed the fewest passing yards per game in the league this season.
If Cousins and Mullens are unable to play, the Vikings will be forced to start Mond, who has never started an NFL game. Mond has shown promise in limited action this season, but he is still a rookie and would be facing a tough matchup against the Colts.
The Vikings are hoping that Cousins or Mullens will be able to play on Sunday, but O'Connell's tight-lipped approach suggests that the team is preparing for the possibility of starting Mond.
