Texas A&M star RB carted off with injury vs. South Carolina
Starting RB Devon Achane suffers gruesome injury
Texas A&M suffered a major blow to their offense on Saturday when star running back Devon Achane was carted off the field with a gruesome injury in the first quarter of their game against South Carolina.
Achane was tackled awkwardly on a run up the middle and immediately grabbed his left knee. He was attended to by trainers on the field for several minutes before being carted off to the locker room.
The injury is a huge loss for Texas A&M, as Achane is one of the most dynamic playmakers in the country. He ran for 1,102 yards and 12 touchdowns in 2022.
Severity of the injury unknown
The severity of the injury is not yet known, but it is feared that Achane could miss significant time.
If Achane is forced to miss an extended period of time, it will be a major blow to Texas A&M's offense. The Aggies are already without starting quarterback Haynes King, who is out with a shoulder injury.
Aggies will need to find a way to replace Achane's production
If Achane is out for an extended period of time, the Aggies will need to find a way to replace his production.
They could turn to sophomore running back Le'Veon Moss, who has shown some flashes of potential in his limited opportunities.
They could also try to use a running back by committee approach, with Moss, freshman Rueben Owens, and junior Ainias Smith all getting carries.
Losing Achane would be a major blow to Texas A&M's offense
Losing Achane would be a major blow to Texas A&M's offense, but they have some options to try to replace his production.
The Aggies will need to find a way to get more production from their other running backs and their passing game if they want to be successful in 2023.
