Columbia, S.C.

Welcome to the latest edition of the STRecruiting Notebook, where we catch up with the latest news on South Carolina football recruiting. The Gamecocks are coming off a big weekend on the recruiting trail, with several key prospects visiting campus, setting up officials for November, and plenty of offered recruits, and we'll have the latest on all of that down below.

Murph setting November officials

One of the biggest stories in South Carolina recruiting right now is the Gamecocks' pursuit of four-star defensive lineman Shemar James. James, a 6-foot-3, 300-pounder from Crisp County (Ga.) High School, is one of the top remaining uncommitted defensive tackles in the 2023 class. The Gamecocks have been heavily involved in James' recruitment for months, and they're now in a good position to land his commitment. James has set up several November officials: James is scheduled to take an official visit to South Carolina on November 4th.

The Gamecocks also handed out a few more offers this week, including one to three-star offensive lineman Jayden McGowan. McGowan, a 6-foot-4, 315-pounder from Duncan (S.C.) High School, is a rising prospect in the 2024 class. He holds offers from several other Power Five schools, including Auburn, Duke, and Virginia Tech. With the addition of McGowan, the Gamecocks now have 14 offers out to 2024 prospects. That's all for this edition of the STRecruiting Notebook.
